Still about two weeks away from Spring Training in MLB. Still a little less than 4 weeks away from my first show in Las Vegas.
I don't want to wish my life away here but I am anxious for both of these events. The Vegas show is currently my NEXT show, which is an indication of how slow it has been for me, thus the time to write this.
Another slow news day in Baseball as players, management and staffs enjoy their last couple of weeks of down time. These weeks are time to clear the head and start preparing the mind and body for the new season.
So slow it has been, in fact, that the biggest story of the day seems to be that Lance Berkman said some unfavorable things about the Texas Rangers and why he didn't sign with them.
Lance, who did not resign with the Yankees signing a one-year deal with the Cardinals, said on a local radio station, "I felt like if they didn't re-sign Cliff Lee that they were going to be an average team, and I feel that's probably what's going to end up happening. It's all about your pitching. I feel like last year was one of those special years where you kind of catch lightning in a bottle and they got hot and they had some guys that I felt like were pitching better than their talent level, and consequently, they had a great year."
The almost 35-year old, listed-at-230-pounds Berkman is coming off of a .248 season where his contribution to the Yankees included a home run. Ironically, his signing with the Cardinals just made his own new team worse.
Ok, well it's tough to say "worse" since he might be a valuable bat off of the bench. That's just his best projection on that roster right now. He won't play first with Pujols there and Matt Holiday, Jon Jay, and Colby Rasmus are slated to be the starters in the outfield.
He'll get 8 million dollars to watch his team from the bench take him for a ride to the NL Central title. While he might have been less than wise to insult the players and fans of the Texas Rangers, one can't question the wisdom in signing that deal.
If it was me, I hopefully wouldn't care about the team for which I played. If I was blessed enough with that sort of talent I would hope that I had the humility it takes to be responsible to have such a blessing.
Unless it was the Brewers. Come on, Milwaukee? Have to draw a line somewhere.
Did I mention that it was slow in MLB?
I am working on a new hypnosis show routine. I have decided to retire the main skit of my show. It is with some sadness that I do so since I wrote it and it helped make a lot of people laugh over the last 4 years. But I need to post some new video and a lot of what is up there (and linked to on this page) get to be the same thing.
Some of the things that people do in my hypnosis shows are funny simply because of their reactions though. So the problem with scripting something is keeping that in mind to the point where I can get people to react differently and do different things in response to the new outline. For example, I can write a script 14 ways that ends with a nasty smell to which people respond. The scripts and stories could all be original but the volunteers are still just reacting to a nasty smell. Fine and funny in person in the context of a complete show, but to cut out highlights for the web, its still just someone cringing because of the smell.
Ground Hog's Day, my favorite holiday is next week. I might make my first-ever trip to Punxatawny to see the famous ground hog, Phil, himself. I am fairly certain that he will tell us that winter still has quite some time left in it.
